I recently had the pleasure of attending another one of Linda Thai’s psychodrama structures workshop. I reunited with these two smart and talented women—refugees born on the same exact day who fled wars and moved countries to finally end up in the same exact place and time. I met them both last year at a Ketamine Therapy Training that helped me realize that I have so many mothers.
This time, we met up in Alaska for a psychodrama + ketamine retreat—11 strangers from all over the country, gathering in Fairbanks, AK to work out our childhood and family traumas through role play and somatic therapy. It sounds odd and unbelievable. Of course I know that these aren’t my real parents. But my body doesn’t know that. And for many of us, our bodies are missing just that. Our nervous systems are dysregulated because we never knew what it was like to be held and nurtured by a safe and calm body.
But through psychodrama, we get to feel this feeling—and for some of us, it’s our first time—of being held, loved, and safe. And this changes everything.
All of a sudden I found my voice again. I felt supported by a village and ideal community who actually see me and want to know me. I felt what it’s like to belong to a tribe—how we were meant to grow up. I had a taste of this up until I was 3 y/o, but lost it when my family left Korea and immigrated to the States. After this psychodrama retreat, I left with what felt like mothers, fathers, aunties, and uncles who you can count on to be your #1 fans—what my family had to sacrifice for the American Dream. The somatic imprint I gained during this retreat has given me the gift of an alternate reality that I actually get to live.
And lucky for LA-based folks… Linda will be facilitating a BIPOC-only psychodrama structures workshop in LA from 7/30/2024 - 8/2/2024. I highly recommend! Especially for those who feel like they’ve tried it all and nothing is working. Email me for more info and check out Linda’s website.
